What Amazes You?

I heard the story about a child that had a very unique opportunity. His grandparents lived in Africa and the child had the privilege to visit. The grandparents wanted him to have a great experience so they took him on a safari where he saw all kinds of wildlife and exotic animals. He ate food that was native to the region of Africa he was visiting and saw some of the amazing sites of the continent. His experience was unlike any other that children his age get to have and the sites he saw were the kind he normally would only have seen in National Geographic. When he returned home, his parents asked him what he remembered. “What stuck out in your mind as the most amazing thing you saw while in Africa?” To their amused surprise, he responded, “Granddad can take his teeth out!”

Children are like that. They are easily impressed by the most unusual things and not the least bit ashamed to say it. But that also causes me to think about what amazes us. In our high tech world with all the special effects, it is easy to be underwhelmed by a simple worship service of songs and the Word. Yet let us not forget that the Creator of the universe is the audience and we are not there to be entertained. We are there simply to worship our great God. Let not the bells and whistles of any service cloud our view of a great and awesome God. For if we can get a glimpse of Him each week, we will not only be moved by who He is, but will be renewed for the week ahead. Come to worship this week ready to be amazed at our great God.

Rescheduled Games for Kids’ Community Basketball

All games that were cancelled due to weather Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13 have been rescheduled. Kindergarten and first grade teams will play at their previously scheduled times tonight, February 23. The 5th and 6th grade boys game between Hamilton and Wood from February 13 will be played tonight, February 23, at 8:30 pm. The 5th and 6th grade boys game between Finch and Whitlock from February 13 will be played on February 26 at 8:30 pm.

Kids’ Community Basketball Recognition Service

This Sunday, during the evening worship at 6 pm, we celebrate and recognize the conclusion of our Kids’ Community Basketball season. Enjoy a special night of awards and a special message from our guest speaker. Family members are invited. Players should sit with their coaches.

Guest Artist in Worship

Blake Bolerjack will be in concert Sunday, March 14, during the 6 pm service. Blake is a gospel artist with a contemporary flair who sings with power and conviction. He will be sharing music from his latest project of great hymns of the church.

Yellow Cap Training

Texas Baptist Men (TBM) participates in disaster projects all over the world and volunteers are used for a variety of relief and rebuilding projects. To be eligible to participate on a team, you must have received “Yellow Cap Training” within the past two years. TBM will be conducting Yellow Cap Training at FBCC this Saturday, February 27, from 9 am – 1 pm in the Parlor. The training is free. You are encouraged to attend this training if you are interested in being on a team in the future. Donuts and coffee will be available, so come early and get to know other people who may be on one of your future teams. STEP-Up Weekend

STEP-Up Weekend is a special overnight retreat planned just for fifth graders. It will take place April 9 and 10. The girls will meet in the home of Brent and Allison Taylor and the boys will meet in the home of Jeff and Brook Hughes. The cost is $50 per child which includes a T-shirt, workbook by Dr. James Dobson, supplies, food and an activity.

GlobeTrekker Girls Mini Camp
